Show and Tell Residency

For the Show and Tell Residency, I wanted to tell a personal history to explore a larger theme. In order to tell this story, I created a series of larger linocuts to produce prints that would be intentionally treated as less than precious. 

My family and I lived in Golden, Colorado for almost ten years. Golden is where Buffalo Bill Cody was buried and I wanted to poke a few holes in the myth of Manifest Destiny with this work. This block is a riff on a famous BB Cody lithograph. 

After creating my three key blocks, I spent a month collaging prints from the three main images as well as several years worth of my own ephemera and monoprints to evoke a wall papered with many advertisements over the years.  6.75' by 6.85', linoprint/monoprint collage on canvas.

The first block created for this work was "The Supplicants," intended to create a noetic experience. Whether this is an alien abduction, visit from angels, a  woman dancing, Freddie Mercury , or something else is up to the viewer. 

"Buffalo Bear Days" is the name of an event that sounds like it should exist but doesn't. This image is a modern take on the Roosevelt Bears    as reimagined as a constellation.
